After weeks of strikes, which placed a heavy burden on hospital operations, Seitz was retained in 2022 by the total of six university hospitals in NRW to provide comprehensive support in the collective bargaining dispute regarding a so-called 'Tarifvertrag Entlastung' (TV-E) (Relief Collective Bargaining Agreement). We accompanied our clients as negotiators on the employers' side in the complex collective bargaining negotiations with several trade unions and the establishment of a separate employers' association for the university hospitals in NRW. Also after the conclusion of the 'Tarifvertrag Entlastung', Seitz continues to advise the employers' association and the university hospitals in NRW on various collective bargaining and general employment law issues.
With the mandate for the university hospitals in NRW, Seitz's employment law team was once again able to demonstrate its expertise for projects in collective bargaining law and the hospital sector. For example, Seitz has been advising the University Hospital Cologne since 2020 on the ‘Klinikverbund Köln’ project, the so-called 'Charité of the West'. This concerns a possible merger of the university hospitals with the hospitals of the city of Cologne. The project could result in the creation of Europe's second largest hospital, health and research center.
Zudem hat Seitz das Universitätsklinikum Köln beim Erwerb von 51% der Geschäftsanteile an der Evangelisches Klinikum Köln Weyertal GmbH von der Evangelische Trägergesellschaft Köln gemeinnützige GmbH sowie beim Erwerb der dazugehörigen Grundstücke im Wege eines gemischten Share- und Asset-Deals beraten.
